Porcupine Hills Loop 68km
The standard route starts and finishes at the Maycroft Provincial Rec Area. This route takes you through historic ranchlands, up into the Porcupine Hills, and back again.
You can also park at the intersection of Hwy.520 and Skyline Road to shorten the loop but there are no washrooms there.
Loaded with spectacular views, significant climbing , and equal amounts of descending, this route will tingle all the senses.
At the top of East Sharples Road (after the switchbacks) you have a choice to do the loop in either direction.
There are no services and no water so bring extra and be prepared. Enjoy a lunch at the viewpoint POI overlooking the front range of the Rockies. Finish with a dip in the Old Man River and you've done this route right.
Here's a plan for a weekend of gravel:
- drive down to Blairemore on Friday, check into the Lost Lemon
- Ride Hillcrest Mtn Rounder Saturday, stay the night
- Head towards Calgary, ride the Porcupine Loop, then head home
