2 Peas In A Pod

Experience You Can Trust

My first job was a dishwasher, my second job was a bicycle mechanic, and I have been wrenching on bikes more or less since 1985. I’ve been around long enough to have seen the birth of indexed shifting, carbon fibre bicycles, MTB suspension, hydraulic braking systems, electronic shifting, and most recently, modern electric bikes. During all those years I worked as a bicycle mechanic for a decade, raced road bikes, mountain bikes, cyclocross, bikes, and track bikes for 25+ years, got bored with all of that, moved onto sales repping for a decade, got bored with that too, and eventually decided to open my own shop almost 15 years ago.

They say 10,000 hours makes a master. What am I if I have over 50,000 hours invested? It’s been quite a journey and through it all my passion for cycling remains undiminished.

Sean Carter and Nadia Smiley represent the frontier of possibility in Alberta’s cycling landscape. Their “Little Bike Shop on the Prairie,” BikeBike Inc., introduced family cycling and cargo bikes to a generation of Albertans, paving the way for a citizen cycling revolution in Calgary and Edmonton. Leading the way with calls for safer streets, and encouragement for people of all ages and abilities to start everyday bike habits, they built a tight local community, and a broad national following that continues to grow as more people choose a bike to get around their communities. Mr & Mrs BikeBike are a true “mom and pop” operation that punches above their weight by changing hearts and minds with every turn of the pedals.

Sean and Nadia’s foray into adventure cycling came as naturally as a moose ambling through the Southern Alberta wilderness. By gently nudging their BikeBike community to explore the roads less traveled in Alberta’s foothills, they discovered a lifetime of adventure just a short distance from their city-center storefront. The creation of self-guided “off the beaten path” adventures came into focus with the resurgence of bike touring/bikepacking and that has inspired more people to access these routes to find adventures close to home. They’re thrilled to welcome you to their “backyard” and can’t wait to help you enjoy Alberta like you’ve never seen it before.

Unique and amazing shop with hands down the coolest bikes, including cargo bikes that will put your dad's truck to shame! They're totally devoted to fostering Calgary's bike community, and it's clear this is more than just a business. Plus, they take care of you when you need it - like every bike shop this spring, they're absolutely slammed, but took time to make sure I got my work bike back on the road the same day. I always send my friends here first when they're in need of a bike.

This shop means a lot to the city for a lot of reasons. Both Nadia and Sean have done and continue to great things for the bike community for Calgary. They know what they sell and do exactly that very well, amazingly with just the 2 of them. If you're looking for an experience where people take the time to fit you with EXACTLY what you need, this is the place for you! And Monsieur for PM!

A small local business with a nice selection of specialty and niche bikes. The staff are very knowledgeable and kind. They'll ensure that you get the perfect bike for you, and keep it maintained for years to come. Although the store is small they have a good selection of bike bags, saddlebags, bells, bungees, and helmets to ensure you're set to ride. I’m a happy customer who will continue biking from across the city to shop here. Keep up the great work guys!
